BACKGROUNDS OF THE WOMEN Dysfunctional Family Many come from broken family dynamics, leaving their homes at early ages. Neglect They experience various forms of neglect and child abuse, leading to lack of a support network and hope. Poverty These women have low levels of formal education, lack of access to other employment opportunities, and low income. Gender Inequality Many come from countries where they are oppressed due to their gender, affecting their self worth and value. Upon arriving to Canada, these issues are carried over.
